Overhaul-Rebuild & Fiber Addition
ASEC supported a 26-mile project that consisted of 17 miles of overhaul-rebuild and an additional 9 miles of OPGW Fiber addition to the existing transmission line structures. The existing H-frame line was converted to delta-monopoles.
The rebuild structures were designed using a combination of engineered concrete and steel poles. ASEC generated the point loads for the engineered structures and reviewed the vendor calculations and fabrication drawings. The foundations were designed by ASEC using a combination of direct-embedded, and drilled pier shafts utilizing the anchor bolt cage design from the vendor. Software used – PLS-CADD, FAD Tools, PLS-CAISSON.
Structural Transmission Evaluation Program
The purpose of the Structural Transmission Evaluation Program (STEP) is to give Transmission Asset Management a uniform and global view of the health of 500kV transmission system as it relates to mean strength values derived from PLS-CADD’s Finite Element Analysis software.
ASEC is managing the program wholly using internal resources from schedule development to monthly reporting and tools creation using POWER BI. Our client’s 500kV tower family is modeled using information from a GIS system, Structural Data Sheets and detail drawings of the 500kV lines and towers. LiDAR data will be used along with M4 models to accurately sag conductors and develop structure usages per STEP criteria.
ASEC has been contracted to design two new river crossing towers and two new anchor deadend towers. ASEC will additionally perform sensitivity analysis by modeling the adjacent spans in PLS-CADD and designing the appropriate location for the river crossing towers within existing easement constraints.
ASEC is currently at the mid-point of this design coordinating the efforts with the contractor and the client for the effective construction of a tower of this magnitude. Once designed and installed this will be one of the tallest transmission line towers in United States.
Lidar Integration Program for PCS additions
ASEC will be supporting a client’s Civil/Structural and Transmission Engineering groups with integrating the latest LiDAR data into the most current PLS-CADD models in support of Our client’s PCS program.
The finalized up-to-date PLS-CADD model will be used for the .LCA file generation. Antenna loads shall be added on to the .LCA loads for final analyses on the existing tower.
