Scope

ASEC was engaged by the client to conduct preliminary design through 15 miles of environmentally and culturally sensitive areas in San Diego county. The original line was built in 1925 through a Tier 2 High Fire-Threat-Zone and additionally hosted two 12kV distribution circuits. ASEC was also tasked with designing 4 underground cable poles.

Outcome

Lightning shielding was added to increase the reliability of the line along with the wood to steel replacements. Two risers for 69 kV transmission structures and two 12 kV distribution risers were designed. ASEC coordinated with the underground design team to pick a spot where the cable pull distances were minimized.
